Paramaribo, Suriname – August 15, 2025:
The Embassy of India in Paramaribo marked the 79th Independence Day of India with vibrant enthusiasm and patriotic spirit at the Chancery premises. The occasion was graced by the presence of Ambassador H.E. Subhash Gupta, who ceremonially hoisted the Indian National Flag in the presence of members of the Indian community, prominent diaspora figures, and friends of India.
The celebration witnessed participation from distinguished guests including Mr. Dewanchandrabhose Sharman, former Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Suriname and recipient of the prestigious Pravasi Bharatiya Samman, alongside Surinamese Parliamentarians Ms. Ameerani Jarbandhan and Mr. Rawien Raghoenanden, as well as senior government officials.
Following the flag hoisting, the gathering joined in the soulful rendition of the Indian National Anthem. Ambassador Gupta then read out the address of Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, highlighting India’s achievements, its global standing, and the pivotal role of the Indian diaspora in nation-building.
Reflecting India’s age-old cultural values and unity in diversity, the celebrations included a rich cultural segment. Students and the dance teacher of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC) mesmerized the audience with patriotic-themed classical and folk dance performances. These performances beautifully captured the spirit of Bharatiya Sanskritiand invoked pride in India’s civilizational heritage.
In a heartwarming display of community spirit, well-known cultural figure Shri Kries Ramkhelawan led a group of diaspora students in singing patriotic songs, stirring a deep sense of nostalgia and national pride among the attendees.
The event concluded with light refreshments and interaction among guests, reinforcing bonds between India and the Indian-origin community in Suriname—a land with deep-rooted cultural and spiritual ties to Bharat.
