In a heartfelt display of solidarity and remembrance, a Shanti Yagya (peace prayer ceremony) was held on Friday, June 20, 2025, at the Shiv Mandir in Samabula, to honor the victims of the recent tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad.
Organized by the Trustees and National Executive Council of the Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji, the ceremony brought together faith, community, and leadership in a moment of national mourning.
Dignitaries in Attendance
The solemn occasion was graced by:
- Members of the Parliament of Fiji
- His Excellency Mr. Suneet Mehta, High Commissioner of India to Fiji
- His Excellency Dr. Brian Jones, British High Commissioner to Fiji
- Members of the diplomatic corps, community leaders, and the general public
Together, they paid tribute to the lives lost and extended their prayers for strength and healing to the families affected by the tragedy.

The Shanti Yagya, conducted in accordance with Vedic tradition, offered prayers for the souls of the departed, peace for the grieving families, and a collective appeal for the safety of all global travelers. The air was filled with sacred chants and the fragrance of incense as those present bowed their heads in solemn remembrance.
Speaking at the ceremony, representatives of the Sabha and dignitaries expressed condolences and reaffirmed the deep bonds between the Fijian, Indian, and international communities.
“Today, we come together not just in mourning, but in compassion,” said one trustee. “May peace prevail for the victims and strength be granted to those they leave behind.”
The Air India tragedy, which claimed numerous lives, has resonated deeply around the world. Communities from all corners have held vigils, prayers, and tributes in recognition of the human loss. Fiji’s tribute at Samabula reflected this shared grief and emphasized the values of empathy, unity, and humanity.
