The National Council of Indian Culture (NCIC) has announced the appointment of Mr. Surujdeo Mangaroo HBM (Gold) as its new President, ushering in a new era of leadership for one of the country’s foremost cultural organizations.
Mr. Mangaroo has pledged to build upon the strong foundation laid by his predecessor, Sen. Deoroop Teemal, focusing on advancing youth development and enhancing cultural awareness.
With nearly 30 years of dedicated service to the NCIC, Mr. Mangaroo brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the organization’s mission. His leadership in civic and cultural institutions is extensive. He currently serves as the Charter President of the Rotary Club of Penal, Chairman for Cultural Affairs at the Hindi Foundation of Trinidad and Tobago Inc., and Vice President of the Global Indian Organization (GIO) for the Caribbean Region.
He also held the position of Chairman of the National Commission for Self Help Ltd from 2010 to 2015, further reflecting his longstanding commitment to community development and national service.
The NCIC, founded in 1964, has played a pivotal role in preserving and promoting Indo-Trinidadian culture through education, the arts, and major cultural events such as Divali Nagar. Under Mr. Mangaroo’s leadership, the organization is expected to expand its initiatives in youth engagement, cultural education, and community unity.
The organization says it is looking forward to a new chapter marked by revitalized programming, inclusive leadership, and a renewed commitment to fostering national pride through cultural identity.
