Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago — In a momentous diplomatic engagement, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay an official visit to Trinidad and Tobago on July 3–4, 2025, marking his first bilateral trip to the Caribbean nation since assuming office in 2014.
As part of the high-level visit, PM Modi is scheduled to address a Joint Session of the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago, a significant gesture underscoring the deepening ties between the two democracies. This rare and prestigious address highlights the growing importance of India–T&T relations on the global stage.
According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the visit will include bilateral talks with President Christine Kangaloo and Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar. Key discussions are expected to focus on economic cooperation, cultural exchange, diaspora engagement, and strategic partnership.
PM Modi’s visit is seen as a diplomatic milestone, particularly given the large and vibrant Indian diaspora in Trinidad and Tobago, many of whom trace their roots to indentured laborers from India during the colonial era. The trip is also expected to include community interactions and cultural engagements celebrating shared heritage.
Following the visit, PM Modi will proceed to Argentina for an official bilateral meeting, before heading to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he will participate in the 2025 BRICS Summit, taking place from July 5 to 8.
This visit signals India’s renewed focus on strengthening ties with Caribbean nations as part of its broader outreach to the Global South.
