On July 4, 2025, during his official visit to Port of Spain, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Trinidad & Tobago’s newly re-elected Prime Minister Kamla Persad‑Bissessar planted a young tree as part of India’s global campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’—the initiative launched on World Environment Day in June 2024 to honor motherhood and promote ecological stewardship

Modi expressed gratitude on X (formerly Twitter), praising Persad‑Bissessar’s participation and reaffirming that both nations understand the mounting challenges posed by climate change and will “continue to do our utmost to make our planet greener and better.”

The leaders’ meeting earlier in the day at Port of Spain’s Red House marked a celebration of Trinidad & Tobago’s democratic continuity, with Modi congratulating Persad‑Bissessar on securing a second term. Their discussion spanned a comprehensive cooperation agenda—covering agriculture, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, digital transformation including UPI, capacity building, cultural and sporting exchanges, disaster management, climate resilience, and defense collaborations.

Modi and Persad‑Bissessar also agreed to accelerate economic ties, emphasizing mutual efforts in disaster preparedness, environmental protection, and defense partnerships—all within the spirit of enhanced India–Trinidad & Tobago friendship.
